Abstract
A Clinical analysis of the 1728 patients who received the gastroendoscopy was performed in Jeonju Presbyterian Medical Center. The endoscopic findings were compared with the x-ray findings, clinical symptoms, biopsy and operative findings.
We also studied gastric juice acidity in 342 case during gastroscopic procedure.
The following results were obtained.
1. Out of studied 1728 cases,, gastric cancer 412 cases (23.8%), gastric ulcer cases , (15%), Duodenal ulcer 134 cases (7.8%), gastritis 551 cases (31.9%), gastric polyp 13 cases (0. 7%), leiomyoma 2 cases (0. 1%), esophageal-cancer 47. cases (2.8%), esophageal varices 37 cases (2.1%), Mallory Weiss Syndrome 2 case (0.1%) and Normal 270 cases (15.7%) .
2. The most common disease of the stomach was gastritis (31. 9%). Among the gastritis, atropic gastritis was most common (77.5%).
3. Chief complaint and duration of illness were not helpful for the differential diagnosis of various diseases of the stomach.
4. Most frequent sites for involvements of stomach cancer were the body, and the antrum of stomach (about 70%).
5. Among the 69 cases of stomach cancer who received surgical intervention, the patients who received radical gastrectomy belong to Borrmann¢¥s type I , II or III. The rest who received palliative surgery belonged to Borrmann¢¥s type III, IV, or undetermined type.
6. Gastric juice was aspirated and gastric acidity measured in 342 cases of gastroscopy for normal stomach, gastric ulcer, gastric cancer, atropic gastritis and duodenal ulcer. The mean free acidity was 16. 8¨¬¡Æ, 18.4¨¬, 6. 1¨¬, 14.5¨¬ and 33.4¨¬ respectively, the mean total acidity, 62.6¨¬, 62.8¨¬¡Æ, 60¨¬ and 76. 3¡Æ¨¬ respectively.
